Announcing: The 2012 Mission Branch Open House

Don't miss a whole afternoon of free programs for all ages!

Saturday, May 12, 2012, 1:00 to 4:30 p.m.

1:00 pm Children's art workshop hosted by Precita Eyes Mural Arts & Visitors Center. The activity will involve a pastel drawing mural session on Tyvek (fiber glass woven paper). The theme will be "images from your favorite book."

2:00 pm The Latino Comics Expo presents La Raza Comica: Comic Book Art in the 21st Century. Join us for a panel discussion about this great Art Exhibition now at the Cartoon Museum of San Francisco. The panel will be moderated by Liz Mayorga, local comic book artist and will include Jaime Crespo, publisher of Tortilla Press and Mario Hernandez, creator of the legendary Los Bro Hernandez (Love & Rockets). The discussion will be preceded by a Comic Book giveaway to celebrate Free Comic Book Day and courtesy of local bookstore Mission: Comics & Art.

3:15 pm Music by Gaucho, San Francisco's only gypsy jazz sextet. While originally based on the repertoire of Django Reinhart and the gypsy jazz of 1930's Europe, Gaucho finds inspiration in the rhythmic drive and collective improvisation of New Orleans swing music and the “gut bucket” sound. Let by Dave Ricketts on guitar, Gaucho won the Best Jazz and Blues Band SFweekly Reader's Poll in 2009.

2:00 p.m. Latino Comics Expo presenta La Raza Cómica: Comic Book Art in the 21stCentury.
